Unterlinden Colmar

The Unterlinden Museum is mainly known for being a showcase for Rhenish art in France with its remarkable collections of paintings and sculptures representative of 15th and 16th century art, a period during which the Upper Rhine experienced a real age of ‘gold. A large part of the collection of ancient art collected in Colmar during the Revolution comes from churches and convents in the region of Colmar. In this primitive collection where the Isenheim altarpiece, the crucifixion of Colmar and the altarpiece of Bergheim coexist, have been added many works acquired throughout the twentieth century.
